Just yesterday, out of curiosity to see if I had more than 2 hits on my blog in a day, I decided to login and look at the stats. Much to my surprise, I received a 403 Forbidden error when going to the login page. I verified the URL was correct, so I tried refreshing the page. That didn’t work either. So I went to my hosting company and logged in there to take a look at the directory that I was now fearing would be blank. And my fears were confirmed. Somehow, the root directory was wiped out! Well that would explain why I couldn’t login, and got a 404 when I went to www.technorogue.com. Great. My blog was gone. Was I hacked? Did my hosting company have an issue? I don’t know. So in a bit of panic, I re-installed WordPress and created the new MySQL database so that I could have something up and running.

However, after I had done that, I discovered my hosting company offered the ability to restore from a snapshot! Sweet! Like VMware, but different So after having installed the latest version of WordPress, I did a restore from snapshot. Within a few minutes, my blog was back. Everything was there — the posts, the pictures, the comment. Then today I came back to my blog to check something, and it was the default post, default comment, and all the defaults. And that’s when it dawned on me — I set up a new MySQL database, and when the reinstall of WordPress became active, it overrode everything I had restored. D’oh!

So I am taking all this as a sign to start fresh. The last post on my old blog was from November 2010. It’s time to start anew, and start posting with a bit more frequency. I hope you enjoy the new and improved TechnoRogue.com. Thank you!
